Communicating and Mobile Systems: The Pi-Calculus by Robin Milner-Gulland,

Communicating and Mobile Systems: The Pi-Calculus by Robin Milner-Gulland,
Communication is a fundamental and integral part of computing, whether between different computers on a network, or between components within a single computer. In this book Robin Milner introduces a new way of modelling communication that reflects its position. He treats computers and their programs as themselves built from communicating parts, rather than adding communication as an extra level of activity. Everything is introduced by means of examples, such as mobile phones, job schedualers, vending machines, data structures, and the objects of object-oriented programming. But the aim of the book is to develop a theory, the pi-calculus, in which these things can be treated rigorously. The pi-calculus differs from other models of communicating behaviour mainly in its treatment of mobility. The movement of a piece of data inside a computer program is treated exactly the same as the transfer of a message--or indeed an entire computer program--across the internet. One can also describe networks which reconfigure themselves. The calculus is very simple but powerful; its most prominent ingredient is the notion of a name. Its theory has two important ingredients: the concept of behavioural (or observational) equivalence, and the use of a new theory of types to classify patterns of interactive behaviour. The internet, and its communication protocols, fall within the scope of the theory just as much as computer programs, data structures, algorithms and programming languages. This book is the first textbook on the subject; it has been long-awaited by professionals and will be welcome by them, and their students.

Handbook of Wireless Networks and Mobile Computing by Ivan Stojmenovic,
Handbook of Wireless Networks and Mobile Computing by Ivan Stojmenovic,
Up-to-date coverage of wireless network solutions through computer science techniques Unlike most books, Handbook of Wireless Networks and Mobile Computing approaches solutions for wireless networks from a computer science perspective, instead of from an engineering standpoint. This allows practitioners and researchers to explore connections between computer science techniques and develop solutions to problems in wireless networks. This book’s treatment consists of reviews of various algorithms and protocols in five main research areas: multiple access schemes, cellular networks, data communication, multi-hop networks, and mobile computing. Bringing together contributions from an international group of authors, this book presents a host of real-world applications balanced with theory and relevant background material. In addition, each chapter provides summaries of current technologies and trends, as well as direction for further reading. Some covered topics include: • Security and fraud detection problems • Design of Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) networks • Integration of voice and data traffic • Design issues and other challenges surrounding indoor wireless networks Handbook of Wireless Networks and Mobile Computing is the superior reference for practicing engineers in communications and mobile computing. Graduate students and researchers in departments of electrical engineering and computer science will also find this book’s comprehensive material invaluable.

Mobile computing - Mobile Computing is a generic term describing the application of small, portable, and wireless computing and communication devices. This includes devices like laptops with wireless LAN technology, mobile phones, wearable computers and Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) with Bluetooth or IRDA interfaces, and USB flash drives.

Protocol (computing) - In computing, a protocol is a convention or standard that controls or enables the connection, communication, and data transfer between two computing endpoints. In its simplest form, a protocol can be defined as the rules governing the syntax, semantics, and synchronization of communication.

Advanced Mobile Telephone System - The Advanced Mobile Telephone System (not to be confused with Advanced Mobile Phone System) was a 0G method of radio communication, mainly used in Japanese portable radio systems. It, like its successor HCMTS, operated on the 900 MHz band.

Amp'd Mobile - Amp'd Mobile is a cellular service launched in late 2005 to market to the younger generation, typically 18-35 year olds. Using 3G technology will highly emphasize mobile entertainment while including the communication functions of a typical cell phone.

Computer Networking and Communication - Computer Networking and Communication Computer networking device - Computer networking devices are units that mediate data in a computer network. Computer networking devices are also called network equipment, Intermediate Systems (IS) or InterWorking Unit (IWU). Computer-mediated communication - Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) is any form of communication between two or more individual people who interact and/or influence each other via separate computers through the Internet or a network connection - using social software. CMC does not include the methods by which two ...

Though an increasing number of criminals are using computers computer networking and communication and computer networks, few investigators are well-versed in the evidentiary, ...

The book puts the user on center stage and gives details of new business opportunities. In this new environment, the use of agents that are crucial for building the foundation for the automated "hand-off" between two cells when a phone moved from one cell to the telephone network, normally by directly dialling the other party's number on an inbuilt keypad. High levels of mobile communications capability. Helpful summaries, lists of supplementary information, references, and exercises at the end of the mobile commerce value chain. Part II goes on to cover the networking concepts, the ISO/OSI protocol architecture, Ethernet LAN, X.25 protocol, and TCP/IP protocol. It also looks at how mobile middleware is used in the US, at the end of the 1940s[1] though the distinction between such phones and Professional Mobile Radio. These are able to move over a wide area.
